Samsung Solve for Tomorrow: Celebrating Young European Innovators

LONDON, UK – 13th July 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd – On 12^th July, the first Samsung Solve for Tomorrow European Fair was held, bringing together the winners of the local Solve for Tomorrow competitions from across Europe.

The teams presented their tech-for-good ideas such as mobile applications, platforms, AI and VR solutions, and had an opportunity to network and connect with other like-minded peers, and celebrate their achievements.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow encourages young minds unpick and take action against challenges faced by society, by harnessing technology.  Since its inception in the U.S. in 2010, Solve for Tomorrow has expanded its operation in 33 countries worldwide, including 18 European countries. Almost two million young people have benefitted from the programme to date. Samsung employees volunteer to mentor the teams, advising on their ideas and offer their expertise in each country, walking the journey together with the contestants.

In the UK the first edition of the programme ran in 2020, and takes the form of a competition with additional year-round supporting activities open to all, designed to build confidence, capabilities and connections in the young people involved. Applicants are asked to develop innovative solutions to real-life issues affecting their own community within one or more of the following themes: Education, Sustainability, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Social Isolation.

From the UK, the 2022 winner, Ramneek Kaur Ahluwalia shared her project, MyVision with the European community. Ramneek, who herself is visually impaired won the 2022 UK competition with her idea MyVision, a tech-forward mobility aid that allows users to navigate their surroundings via Ai, LiDAR and GPS technology.  The groundbreaking mobile device was created as an advancement of the white cane. From the UK, Team Repair, who were awarded second place in the UK competition also presented at the European Fair. Team Repair aim to supply monthly educational activities developed to engage children with STEM and promote sustainability by repairing broken electronic gadgets.

Victor Negrescu, Romanian politician of the Social Democratic Party, and member of the European Parliament, was invited to speak alongside Martin Smrž, CEO at Junior Achievement, Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow partner in the Czech Republic and a global non-profit youth organization that prepares students for navigating the world of business and teaches them financial literacy.

Martin said: “The mission of JA Czech is to educate youth so that they know the value of business, understand business and economics behind it, are open minded and innovative, become leaders and motivators for their peers and be well prepared for the world of work. We very much value the partnership with Samsung on Solve for Tomorrow programme as it is very much in line with our mindset. The nicest thing about the Solve for Tomorrow is that it motivates students to think out of the box and formulate their innovative ideas on how to solve a specific issue around them.”
