Visual Trickery: Five Simple Ways to Switch Up Your Interiors with Space-Shifting Illusions

LONDON, UK – Tuesday, November 26, 2023 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd:  With ‘multi-functional furniture’ one of the UK’s most-searched for queries[1], up nearly 127% month-on-month, making the most of our space at home is more important than ever before.

So, as winter draws in Samsung has partnered with interior designer and master of illusions, Dara Huang, to give her top tips to transform your space. Through utilising some simple tricks, Huang outlines how to make the most of your home at a time when staying-in is the new going out.

Dara says, “The key to switching up your space is all in the detail. It’s about clever adjustments, from multi-functional furnishings that flex your inside look, to other décor pieces that put a fresh twist on colour schemes and cleverly curated arrangements, for space-shifting illusions.”

Dara’s Top Five Space-Shifting Illusions Tips for the Stay-at-Home Season

  1. Now you see it, now you don’t

Space is one of the more challenging aspects when it comes to hosting, especially in the run-up to the festive season. When we are entertaining more regularly, optimising different areas is key. Tables that moonlight as bookshelves and stools that double as side tables, are easy wins. These features provide more seating and place setting options without compromising on space, then switch back to everyday décor when not needed – magic!

  1. Smoke and mirrors

The phrase ‘smoke and mirrors’ is named as such for a reason, as reflective surfaces can play all kinds of tricks on the mind. One of the easiest ways to create the illusion of space within a room is through mirrored furnishings. For instance, in the living room add mirrored tables and side cabinets so that they reflect light on the surface and visually expand a space, while also providing a clever way to hide everyday items like children’s toys, creating a two in one fix. A mirror cabinet opposite a window will reflect the open outdoors and can be especially effective, not to mention how it is good feng shui.

  1. Is it a TV or is it art? It’s both!

Whether it’s date night, entertaining friends during the festivities, or a quiet night in, the TV is essential but can often become a focal point of a room and doesn’t always compliment the surrounding interior design. However, with the stylish Samsung  Frame TV  you can elevate a room and compliment an interior with a vast range of ever-changing, world renowned gallery artwork that is displayed on the screen when it’s turned off and is guaranteed to impress. The ground breaking Matte Display absorbs reflections, providing a lifelike finish and an interchangeable art gallery[2], all at your fingertips.

  1. Shift with the seasons

Dara says one of the easiest ways to refresh your space for hosting season is to swap out your throw pillows and blankets. For autumn and winter, opt for something with a little more texture or even a holiday-specific motif; then come spring and summer, switch this up for airier materials like linen, in lighter shades.

  1. Visual trickery views

If you have a small space but a beautiful view, Dara recommends making the most of it. Instead of facing furniture to the centre of the room, make the windows your focal point and you’ll feel like you’ve brought the outside in while entertaining and dining.

Equally if you have a small space but don’t have a great window view you can utilise the Samsung Frame TV to display a picturesque window image of rolling hills or a beautiful landscape, using perspective to create the illusion of extra depth within a space.

Since its launch, The Frame has redefined content consumption by turning traditional displays into stunning works of art or displaying personalised photos and images to compliment any interior. The TV’s slim design, interchangeable bezel and Matte Display has been noted by fans and designers from around the world as an excellent addition to match home and interior preferences, while its premium 4K QLED picture quality transforms the everyday home entertainment experience.

Zeena Hill, Samsung’s director of TV/AV at Samsung UK, said: “It has been great working with such a prestigious name within the design industry. Dara’s immeasurable experience and appreciation for the Samsung Frame TV has led to some innovative ideas to make the most of your TV at home, especially as we all head into the busy festive season.”
