Upgraded One UI for Android Pie 9.0

One UI brings you Android Pie 9.0, with exciting new features and a whole new look and feel based on feedback from users in Samsung and Google.
We recommend that you back up your important data to keep it safe before the upgrade.
Some apps, including Calculator, Samsung Internet, Samsung Health, Samsung Notes, Samsung Members, and Samsung Pay, need to be updated individually after you update your OS.
To use the Remote unlock function in Find My Mobile on an Android Pie 9.0 device, the screen lock password (or PIN/pattern) backup process is required. So please make sure that you remember the screen lock password (or PIN/pattern) before starting the update process. If you've forgotten the password (or PIN/pattern), reset it before starting the update process.

Here’s what’s new.

One UI
- Content, settings, and other information have been reorganized to keep you focused on the task at hand.
- Interactive elements have been moved to the bottom of the screen so they're always within reach.
- New designs and features such as Night mode help keep your eyes comfortable.

Notifications
- You can reply to messages directly in the notification panel.
- Image thumbnails are included in message notifications.
- In an app's notification settings, tap the switch once to turn on or off all the notifications in a category.

Samsung Keyboard
- New Unicode 11.0 emojis are available.
- New adaptive theme changes your keyboard look based on the colors of the surrounding app.
- Floating keyboard is available in all apps and has new size and transparency settings.
- You can set a custom touch and hold delay.

Device care (formerly Device maintenance)
- Performance modes are streamlined and integrated into power saving modes.

Always On Display
- New clock styles have been added, including the option to show a calendar with your schedule.

Settings
- Menus have been reorganized to make settings easier to find.


Phone
- You can now sort your call history by incoming and outgoing calls.
- Your call history can include up to 2000 entries (increased from 500 entries).

Contacts
- The new drawer menu makes it easier to manage contacts from various accounts.

Gallery
- Photo Editor Pro's editing tools have been added to Gallery, so you can make all your edits and touchups without leaving the app.

My Files
- The new storage analysis tool has been added to help you monitor your storage usage and save space.
- You can now show or hide items on the My Files Home screen.

Samsung Health
- Your daily step count will be shown in the notification panel. To hide it, press and hold the notification, then turn off Current steps.

Here’s what’s new.

Biometrics
To improve your security, features that use biometrics (fingerprints) are only available when you use a secure screen lock type (pattern, PIN, or password). When you switch to a non-secure screen lock type (Swipe or None), biometric authentication is suspended for unlocking and for verification in apps like Samsung Pass. If you're using biometrics now without a secure screen lock type, you'll be able to continue after the upgrade, but changing to a secure screen lock type is recommended.

Quick Panel
- Manage notifications for each app with notification categories (supported apps only).
- Icons will be shown at the bottom of the notification panel for notifications that aren't currently visible.

Home Screen
- Touch and hold an app to display shortcuts to common or recommended tasks within the app (supported apps only).
- Notification badges on app icons are linked with the notification panel. Clear a notification in one location, and it will also be cleared in the other location.

Samsung Keyboard
- The GIF keyboard lets you send GIFs.
- More high-contrast keyboards are available.

System Performance
- Background services are limited to improve performance and battery life.
- Currently running apps will always be shown in the notification panel.

Smart View
- Let your phone's screen go dark when mirroring to another screen.

Samsung account
- Control your account settings and profile information for multiple apps.
- Tap your profile picture on the main Settings page to access your profile information and account settings.

Samsung Cloud
- View and manage photos and notes stored only in Samsung Cloud.
- Store any type of file in Samsung Cloud Drive.
- Select specific items to delete or restore from your backups.
- See how big each backup is and how many items it contains.

Samsung Dual Messenger
- Install a second copy of a messaging app so you can use two accounts at the same time. For apps that verify accounts using phone numbers, you'll need a different phone number for each account.
- Touch and hold a messaging app on the Home or Apps screen to install the second account or go to Settings - Advanced features - Dual Messenger.

Find My Mobile
- Back up Secure Folder remotely in Samsung Cloud when your phone is lost.
- Lock Samsung Pass using Find My Mobile.
