Get the firmware for your exact model code and region (CSC), then unzip the archive on your PC.
Install the Samsung USB drivers and run Odin on Windows. Charge the phone and back up your data.
Add each file to the Odin slot with the same name. Use HOME_CSC to keep your data, or CSC for a clean install.
Connect the phone in Download mode, press Start and wait for PASS. Do not unplug the cable while flashing.

Open Settings > About phone and look for "Model number", for example SM-A156B.
Region (CSC)
Open Settings > About phone > Software information. Your CSC is part of "Service provider software version", for example XEO or SEK.
Code *#1234#
Dial *#1234# in the Phone app to see the installed AP, CP and CSC versions. Some carrier models block this code.

CSC performs a factory reset and erases all data on the device. HOME_CSC keeps your apps and data, so it is the usual choice for updating to a newer build.
Only to a build with the same bootloader (binary) version as the one installed. It is the fifth character from the end of the build number, for example 1 in A156BXXU1AXB5. A lower binary is rejected with an SW REV CHECK FAIL error.
Many countries share one multi-CSC firmware (for example EUX for much of Europe), so check the region list on the model page. New models and regions are added as our checker finds them, and Firmware Finder can look up a model and region on request.
